Today Mrs. Saatkamp opened the class telling us about the new blog posts we should check and then quickly moved on to correct the homework. She focused the correction around questions 32 and 44.
On 44, the students objective was to proportionally reduce a 27.5 by 21.3 rectangle so that it could fit in a 10 by 10 area:

Mrs. Saatkamp's reasoning showed us that: for us to get the maximum size that the rectangle could be proportional in a 10 by 10 square we had to make the largest measurement 10, so that the smaller measurement is automatically less than 10. This is the proportion that would be used to find the smaller measurement:

After number 44 was explained, Mrs. Saatkamp moved onto number 32 which most students also had trouble with. Only then did we start learning Lesson 7-2 "Exploring Similar Polygons". First, Mrs. Saatkamp had us try to define similar polygons, which ended up being: two polygons that have congruent angles and proportional sides. She then wrote this diagram on the board to explain the idea:

Then, so we could practice before homework, Mrs Saatkamp gave us an example, in which we had to compare the measurement of the perimeter and area of two similar squares. It was during this example that Mrs. Saatkamp introduced the idea of a scale factor, which is basically how many times bigger one similar polygon is in comparison to another. Scale factors can be shown as fractions and ratios
