Math Project!!

Hey Ms. Saatkamp!
I was researching more about Aristotle and I realized he didn't make a big discovery about geometry. So I wanted to know if I could change to EUCLID?? Is anyone doing him. If yes please post a response.

Sicerely,
Phil.

Question about the project

Dear Ms. Saatkamp,
I'm just writing to ask about the mathmatician I picked. I'm not really sure if you'll even check the blog anymore, but if you do it would help to know for sure.
The mathmatician i picked wasnt really a mathmatician, who worked in the navy, but he invented the sextant, which is a navigational tool. This tool uses angles from the stars to the horizon to fid your exact place on the map. Is this a geomety discovery? I think it is, because its using geaometry in real life. But I'm not sure if you want more like theorems or things you find in math books. His name in John Campbell, the inventor of the sextant. If you get this can you reply to me and tell me if this discoverer is good? Thank you,
Jenni

Mrs. Saatkamp
Even though you said to me you were sorry for witing that in my report card since you thought have not been doing some homework, you said that you understood i did not do only one of the homework. My father still wants to talk to you. So, can you pass your email to me?
Thankfully,
Luis

Reflection of the Blog

Ms.Saatkamp, first of all, I'm sorry I didn't post earlier, my internet wasn't working. I am aware that I may lose grade for not posting on time, but I just thought it'd be better to post a day late than to not post at all.

-

1) How would you describe the usage of a blog during this year? Explain
I thought that the blog was really useful to help us learn and sometimes if I didn't understand the subject very well, I'd go to the blog and reread the lesson and better comprehend the subject. Altough I didn't check the blog every day, it was a great tool to use to learn.
2) Give some advantages and some disadvantages of its use.
One major advantage was that if I ever missed school, I could check the blog and see what I had missed and although that was different from actually being in class, it was good to see if there was a lot of new things to learn or not. I also liked that people would post test and quiz days and project deadlines, which were a reminder of when things had to be due. Something that I didn't like was that sometimes people didn't post on time and then it kind of lost the point of the blog and it also confused the order of posting.
3) If you were to use it again, would you keep the format of it or you would change something?
I think that it would be better if the teacher posted because, as Ms.Saatkamp has pointed out before, some people have posted incorrect information which may have confused some students. However, I do understand that this would've been even more work for the teacher. Also, it would be better if people labeled their post like "Lesson 11-3" and if there were a search button, so then if a person were looking for a specific post on some lesson, they wouldn't have to scroll down until they found it.

Thanks Miss, and sorry once again for not posting on time.

What I thought...

1) How would you describe the usage of a blog during this year? Explain

I thought that it was very useful to have when I missed a couple of classes, because it explained some things that the book didn’t explain. I thought that sometimes the posts were very confusing and long, and depending on the day, they weren’t very useful.

2) Give some advantages and some disadvantages of its use.

Even though it has certain advantages, I thought that there were plenty of disadvantages, because each post takes a really long time to write. To make each graph and to write each equation took forever to write. But apart from that it helped learning the subject, especially to the person who wrote the blog. I remember one time I didn’t really understand the topic very well until I had to explain it on the blog, and then I understood it much better.

3) If you were to use it again, would you keep the format of it or you would change something?

I would have liked to be able to write the post in Microsoft word and then paste it on the post, because it was very annoying to have to write everything in the very small screen, and to put pictures would mess up the format of the whole post. If the screen for posting was bigger, then I think I would have appreciated the blog a little more.

Survey - Bia

I think the blog was a very great idea for studying and all… Usually, when we miss classes, we would get to school next day and have no idea of what our teachers are explaining. Of course, reading whatever is posted on the blog can’t substitute an actual class, but it was great for us to keep up… Also, having the dates posted is something that is very good because through this we can always be sure of the date of tests and stuff like that. And, of course, reading the explanation of other students to the same class can help us approaching the subject by different ways or see something we missed during class. The only problem was that some people didn’t realize that others started relying on the posts when they missed class: I missed class only one day and no one posted… So I continued lost -.-…
I believe the format could be improved by dividing the posts into months categories or chapters. Also, to have a pre-set way of writing the title of the post (as Ch 3 – Lesson 1 or Polygons) is a good idea, so that we actually know what the post is about (and, also, the blog would look neater :D)

Post de final de ano!

1 –I’m going to be sincere, I didn’t look at the blog every night and there were weeks which I didn’t had the chance to review our classes using the blog. I think the blog is useful to many people because it helps who didn’t go to class and it also gives a second chance to people who didn’t understand the topic very well. I saw many of my friends who would talk about the posts during lunch and it seems that it helped them. I found it interesting that people would pay much more attention in class when it was their time to post. So in a nutshell, I really think the blog was useful.
2 – The blog helped people who missed classes, who slept in class and also the students who were too busy talking about soccer games or girls. It also was a simple and useful tool to make students pay attention in class when they had to post.
3 – I would keep the same format and it would be interesting to post some things on the blog so people would be forced to check it out every day, because there were many days where I would find myself on msn rather than loggin on the blog.
1) I think it was a good because it was different experience, different from our usual routine. Also, it made use learn how to teach topics in math, rather than just learn them. I think it was a nice way to insert technology into our learning. By posting, we had to apply the things we had learned in class,  helping us understand it better. I think we should continue doing it because it was helpful for me in learning the subject.
2) Advantages:
  • We learned better how to use blogs (I had never used it thouroughly)
  • We had help with our homework whenever we missed school.
  • Even if we were in class, we could review what we learned with organized and detailed information.
  • If we forgot to write down the homework for the day, we can check what it is on the blog.
Disadvantages:
  • If someone forgets to post, than whoever missed classed that day wouldn't have help for the homework.
  • It is more complicated to make diagrams, in case we need many of them for post

3) I would keep the format becuase I think it was very organized, since it was devided into categories of announcements, projects, and posting list. Also, its chronological order is very helpful and makes it easy to find the post of the day. The only thing I would change is to make categories for each week or month, so it would be more organize.

Survey André

  1. I think the idea of the blog was a creative idea that somehow contribuited to my learning during Geometry Classes along this year. I sometimes used the blog when I had some doubts and when I needed to post. Although i didn`t use that much, whenever it was requeired.
  2. It believe that during the first semester it was kind of useless because many people didn`t do the posting or did it incorrectly since the grading was not as harsh as it was durign second sememester. It was also bad because if someone posted something wrong, I got the wrong idea from the post. Although it was very good for me since the posting served as an review for me and the subject which I posted I understood moire clearly than the others. it was also another source of inforation, which was good.
  3. I beleive that there could have more organization since it was complicated to find the post that I wanted, for example, when I was looking for the questions of this survey I needed to scroll a long time until I found the post I wanted. Also believe that there could be a padronized tittle for the post, such as Class of 5th of June or the name of the subject we learned and not: André's Post. Even though it had few flaws, I certainly believe that it is a very good learning source and experience.

Thanks Ms. Saatkamp

My opinion....

In my opinion, the blog was a very good way to make us learn. I may not be the best person to say about posting, but for the times I did post, you focus more on the subject and get more into it, whenever someone asks about the subject of that lesson, you can easily explain it, for you have spent a long time writting about it. And I also think it's very good with people who have missed class, these people before had to come to school and ask what was thought, now people can just get into the site and learn the subject. People can also do the homework, and keep up with the other students. I guess the idea of posting is a good idea, but not done by the students, such as what is done by Ms. Pessoa, what was taught is saved and then the students may have access to it. But, the lessons from mimio could be posted into a blog, instead of having to be downloaded.
Dear 9th graders

Please answer the following questions:
1) How would you describe the usage of a blog during this year? Explain
2) Give some advantages and some disadvantages of its use.
3) If you were to use it again, would you keep the format of it or you would change something? Explain.

Thank you for answering those questions.

Mrs Saatkamp
Hey Ms. Saatkamp
1) How would you describe the usage of a blog during this year? Explain
I really liked the blog, i think it was very helpful, not only for when you miss school but also when i didn't understand the subject. I also found it helpful for when I didn`t pay much attention in class and for studying for tests.
2) Give some advantages and some disadvantages of its use.
I acctually enjoyed my posting day because i would understand the subject much better. Something i thought was really important was the change from people that posted on Fridays to extending it for the whole weekend, because it really would be annoying to post friday night. A disadvantage i guess are the technological problems, like geogebra deciding not to work every once in a while, but there really isn`t much we can do.
3) If you were to use it again, would you keep the format of it or you would change something? Explain.
I really like the format, even the Einstein quote and the lighthouse :P. Something maybe that we could do was leave every month in separate folders it would seem more organized. As a suggestion, maybe we could have a printed posting list in the classroom because it is really easy to forget!!

Math Class was really nice and i will miss it very much!
have a happy last friday of the year!!!!

1) The usage of this blog was good however i would say that to acess it some problems would occur constantly, like errors while uploading graphs and pictures. I would describe it as practicall and useful however if i were to grade the practicity of the blog from 1 to 10 i would give it a 7, since we have to log in a computer which had geogebra, create the graphs and upload i to the posts. Overall it was an useful tool for absent people.

2) Some advantages were that people who posted would copy down the lesson therefore they would learn the lesson more deeply by repetition. Also a good advantage was that people who were absent didnt need to put on that much effort to get the lessons they lost, since they would have no need to get out of home in case they were sick. The big disavantage was the geogebra requirement. It is a very useful tool to make effective diagrams however not all computers have it, so some people would have to stay after school to type their entries rather than going home to do it calmly and without worries.

3) If i were to use it again i wouldnt make many changes, however one thing i would like to have changed is the Geogebra, since it is a program only present at the MATH LAB computer labs. Having the program all over the school computers (at least for freshmen and other classes that use it)wouldnt hurt and it would facilitate the acess for the blog.

Survey

1-Well the blog that you created made us to change in class, because first we had to pay more attention so then we were able to post,. I think that this post has make our understanding better because here we had the summarys of everyday.2-First the advantages: the advantages were that now even if you are sick or you cannot attend class, is not a problem, because with the post you can go there to see the hw and what the class was about. However there are also disvantages: What I think is that we lost a lot of time posting, because you have to do formulas, geogebra,... and this take a lot of time that maybe is necessary to other thing. I you were lucky enough then you could get a really short post.3-I think I wouldnt change anything. But now is when you need to think that there are the lucky ones and the ones who had to do a post of 5 images made in geogebra, with 10 formulas, and a long explanation...But I wouldnt change the format.

End of the year survey

The usage of the blog during this year was academic achieved; however there were some points that could be improved. For example one of the blog objectives was for the students who missed class get the information, but in many times the people who were in charged to post on that day didn’t post or posted too late, so most of the times no one used the blog to get the information that he missed or homework for the next day. The blog was well used in the fact that you could review the content before a quiz or test if didn’t have all the information. If I would use again I would suggest to change the format: instead of the students post, the teacher would do that after the end of each class so the students would always have their information necessary to study or do the homework if they were absent in class and do not need to bother if the person in charge of post would really do it or not and they would have less homework.

Answers to survey

1. The usage of the blog this year was a good way to understand the content we learned in class because it makes us to explain the content learned in that days class and to make us work harder in class because then we can do the post much easier.

2. Some advantages of the post is that it helps us to learn the content studied in class much easier, it helps the people who where not in class that day to catch up and not fail anything in the class. One disadvantage is that for some people the posts are smaller and take less time to do and for some it is bigger and take more time.

3. I would keep the format of the blog the same as this year because then for the students who didn't understand what they learned in class then they can look over what the person who posted said and study it.

Survey - Luis Felipe

1) The usage of the blog during the year was good for people that missed class, because they could see what they lost during class, the homework they have, and still see the explanation of the subject we learned at school. Moreover, I think making people summarize the class in the blog was good, because we would extend and reflect about what we learned in class. However, I still think it was useless for the people that didn’t miss class and had to post the summary of the class. Because many times we would have lots of homework from other subjects to do and still had to post. One really good post would be at least 1 hour to do, if the class was with a good amount of content. Then, many times we wouldn’t have time to do our other homework, and that would really damage many people’s grades.

2) Advantages: By making the summary people would stick into their heads better the content. To post, people would still have to think and reflect about the subject to make a good post, and it would make those people understand better what the subject was.
Disadvantages: As I said many people would damage other subject’s grades by not doing their homework since the posting would be really long to do.

3)
I think I would try to change some things in the format as this thing of the homework and try to find another way to do it without damaging people’s grades in other subjects.
